In this 5-day course you'll learn the basics of navigation theory including – the role of the navigator, how to read charts, basic plotting and position determination methods, how to use a compass and GPS, techniques that support planning and safe passage making and more.
Perfect for beginners, this course complements the Sail Canada Basic Cruising Course. Upon successful completion of this course you will be awarded Sail Canada’s Basic Coastal Navigation Standard.
This course is a pre-requisite for the Intermediate Coastal Navigation Course and Intermediate Cruising Course.
Included in Course Fee:
Practice chart, printed copy of basic worksheets and tables, Sail Canada registration and logbook (if needed).If you would prefer printed materials provided please see below for optional add-ons.
Students Must Provide:
Pencil, eraser, note paper, parallel ruler* or Portland plotter* and dividers*.

CanSail 1 and CanSail 2 levels, sailors are introduced to the essential skills of sailing under the supervision of an instructor.
In this 4-day course (day sailing only, not live-aboard), you will learn how to use winches, helm a big boat, understand all the terminology, knots and actions to take as the crew for tacking, gybing, and sailing from A to B.
Our award-winning sail training programs introduce hundreds of new sailors to the sport each year through introductory learn-to-sail courses and camps.
