Welcome to Coastguard Education, the leading provider of recreational boating education in New Zealand. Royal New Zealand Coastguard Education Ltd was formed in 1979 as a non-profit organisation to provide a comprehensive range of boating courses throughout New Zealand.
The organisation is registered as a category 2 provider Private Training Establishment with the New Zealand Qualifications Authority. Coastguard Education staff and tutors are highly experienced and qualified to ensure the best learning experience for students.
The course will cover a range of subjects, including: water safety, names of boat parts, setting up boats, capsizing, launching and retrieving, tacking, gybing, points of sail, basic knots, rules and meanings.
You’ll learn how to sail a dinghy. Each session will have a briefing before and after and we will work on all the things you need to know to be able to control your vessel confidently. If the weather is bad we’ll be learning how to tie knots
Our Junior Learn to Sail courses make use of Optimist dinghies and are designed for 7 - 12 year-olds. With an initial focus on confidence and boat handling, as the sailor’s confidence and skills grow, the class offers opportunities for fleet racing where they can acquire racing skills!
A chance to give sailing a try or have another go without committing to a course. Supervised fun and some help to get you started. Casual sailing sessions are all about having a good time and maybe deciding to take a course.
Learn to sail, or progress your skills with Nelson Yacht Club’s Sailing School this summer! Our awesome team will introduce you to the sport of sailing in a fun and supportive learning environment. Courses and training are based on guidelines set out by Yachting New Zealand.
