Course Description
This unit specifies the outcomes required to operate a self-erecting tower crane for licensing purposes, and covers the operation of a crane where the tower structure and boom/jib elements are not disassembled into component sections, which can be transported between sites as a complete unit, and where the erection and dismantling processes are an inherent part of the crane’s function.
Learning Outcome
On completion of the course, participants will have gained the following skills and knowledge to:
OHS and legislative obligations
How to safely plan self-erecting tower crane operations
Identification and control of hazards/risks in the workplace
Inspection and selection of lifting equipment including sling and load calculations
How to conduct pre-start, pre-operational and post-operational inspections on a self-erecting tower crane
Reading and interpreting load charts
Setting up a crane
Use of LMI (load monitor indicator)
Operating a crane following hand, whistle and radio signals
Operating and shifting a variety of loads
Outcome
Upon successful completion, student will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment.
A High-Risk Work Licence (class CS) will be issued through the WHS authority in your jurisdiction. (SafeWork/WorkSafe)

Prerequisites
