Sewing - Creative Craft - Garment Making - L1 Award

Course information

• To develop knowledge and basic skills in a chosen craft area. The qualification provides learners with underpinning knowledge of the craft process.

• How to safely use sewing machines, and other equipment, how to sew and construct a garment using the correct techniques.

• How to take body measurements, mark, cut out patterns, lay out and cut out fabric, stitch a seam and/or waistband, assembling, fit a garment and follow instructions to construct your first garment.

• You will need English / maths / digital skills.

• You will need a basic sewing skill.

• You will need basic digital skills to work online.

• You will need to be able to keep your work organised in a file. This course is very practical and only a small amount of written work is required which can be completed in class time.

When you have successfully completed this course, you may progress onto another course with the Adult Learning Service (ALS)
