To develop knowledge and basic skills in a chosen craft area. The qualification provides learners with underpinning knowledge of the craft process.
How to safely use sewing machines, and other equipment, how to sew and construct a garment using the correct techniques.
How to take body measurements, mark, cut out patterns, lay out and cut out fabric, stitch a seam and/or waistband, assembling, fit a garment and follow instructions to construct your first garment.
You will need English / maths / digital skills.
You will need a basic sewing skill.
You will need basic digital skills to work online.
You will need to be able to keep your work organised in a file. This course is very practical and only a small amount of written work is required which can be completed in class time.

This workshop is designed to quickly walk you through the basics, build your confidence and get you started on the exciting journey of sewing and mending! Using a sewing box or sewing machine, easily creating new garments as well as mending.
If you have never used a sewing machine before, or perhaps it was so long ago that you have forgotten what to do, this workshop starts at the beginning and will take the frustration out of setting up and using a sewing machine.

Get started with a practice session creating samples to help you sew in a straight line, understand the importance of seam allowances, learn the many functions on your machine and tension for the fabric type.
