Course Details

This course will introduce students to the simple techniques of sewing including basic seams, darts, and manipulating techniques such as pleats and gathers. The tutor will give step by step demonstrations and guide you through the process.

You will be encouraged to work independently and be provided additional support when needed.

Having completed a series of samples you will be able to apply your new found skills to a base pattern and make a custom accessory.  

 

The course follows the following skills:

  • How to sew
  • Understanding the fittings techniques used in clothes
  • Creating different fabric manipulation techniques used in clothing
  • Using sewing equipment safely
  • Precision and accuracy when sewing

 

On completion of this course you will have produced a selection of fabric samples, and made a finished sewn product.

  • I am a fashion design lecturer and designer working primarily in the Midlands, after spending many years working in London as both a tutor and fashion designer. After gaining a Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design Technology: Womenswear from the London College of Fashion, I then completed a Master’s degree in Fashion Design and a PGCE in Post-Compulsory Education at Birmingham City University. I also became a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in 2020.
