This workshop will introduce participants to strategies and techniques for dealing with individuals with hearing loss. Participants will learn the SgSL alphabet, basic sign language for daily communication, and communication strategies. Participants will also learn about deaf culture in order to have a better understanding on how to integrate with individuals with hearing loss.
Established in 1955, the Singapore Association for the Deaf (SADeaf) has been serving the Deaf and Hard-of-hearing community for the past six decades. SADeaf is a member of the National Council of Social Service (NCSS), and is supported by Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) and Ministry of Education (MOE). The association is also affiliated, internationally, to the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) and, locally, to the Children Charities’ Association (CCA).
A foundational Sign Language workshop for anyone keen to learn basic Sign Language for communication purposes. The workshop aims to equip the participants with the basic principles of signing and the how-to in communicating with the Deaf.
Level One aims to develop capabilities in non-verbal, visual-gestural communication as well as the study of gestures as a form of communication and visual language basics.
