Course Details

At the end of the short course learners will be able to fabricate, erect and strip steel and timber formwork for straight walls, columns and bases in accordance with working drawing specifications, National Building Regulations and safety legislation ensuring that client requirements for cost-effective and quality products are met within the prescribed timeframes.

 

Key learning Areas

  • Prepare the work area where the formwork is to be fabricated.
  • The formwork is fabricated in accordance with the safety requirements of the workplace.
  • Formwork is fabricated and completed in accordance with work schedules.
  • Formwork panels are correctly marked or numbered as instructed.
  • Compliance with issued instructions is checked and the correctness of markings or numbering is confirmed.
  • Scaffolding is thoroughly checked and confirmed to be adequately constructed for the task in terms of size, position and in accordance with the requirements of the OHSA.
  • The correct shuttering materials are identified, prepared for use and safely stacked at the work area in readiness for the task at hand.
  • The erected formwork is neat, true to line, plumb and in accordance with specified dimensions and within the specified SABS tolerances.
  • Formwork is stripped in accordance with specified curing requirements.
  • Personal protective equipment is used in accordance with the requirements of the OHSA.
