ASL (American Sign Language) is the native language and culture of a large proportion of deaf people, and is an expressive language based on conceptual signs and a unique sentence structure.

Basic everyday communication using conversationally relevant signs and grammar principles will be studied using the D.E.M. (Direct Experience Method), and will include topics such as: fingerspelling, ASL terminology, expressive and receptive vocabulary, basic sentence structure, spatial locations, parameters, and an examination of the history of sign language as well as issues in Deaf culture.
This course will be conducted entirely in ASL. Speaking with one's voice is not permitted in the classroom.
