DurationTeen singer-songwriters will love this fun and creative programme packed with practical techniques and tips for writing and performing catchy songs.
You’ll learn the craft of writing songs by exploring song and chord structure and how harmony and melody coexist to support the idea behind a lyric. You’ll learn basic lyrical conventions such as metaphor, rhyme, assonance, oxymorons etc and will work on creating your own songs over the programme.
You’ll also learn new singing techniques that explore how your individual voice works and how to shape a song to express yourself.
The course will also explore what's involved performance and live recording.
Feel free to bring your own instruments.
TAPAC was created by the community for the community. It is the product of a long term commitment from a core group of dedicated Aucklanders with a passion for the performing arts.
The idea for TAPAC was born in the late 1980s, as the Performing Arts School of NZ under the Artistic Direction of Jo Kelly, accelerated in capacity and demand. Unitec’s Screen and Performing Arts Department evolved to fulfil some of this need, but it was decided that the community also needed its own performing arts school – somewhere that catered for all levels of expertise, from established professionals to emerging artists and community groups.
Performing arts stalwarts Jo Kelly, Wendy Preston MNZM and Maggie Eyre drove this vision forward. In the late 90’s, they were joined by artist Barbara Ward, who helped TAPAC find a home in the grounds of Western Springs College. WSC’S Principal, the late Ken Havill, lent his support to the project.
Together they lobbied potential stakeholders and investors for a shared community space where performing artists could rehearse, perform, learn and connect with other like-minded creatives.

Singing classes are offered by Auckland Music School. We are focusing on the lessons suitable for each student’s demand and we give our best to provide each student the highest quality in music education. Our goal is to help students to enjoy and love music.
Vocals Course is Offered by Excite Music and Arts Academy.
Offering contemporary vocal classes for all age groups. Our approach is to provide a well rounded vocal education utilising several methods to achieve this goal.
Students learn to use their voice as an instrument. Students should have completed 2 years of basic instrument or 9 yrs old before enrolling in Vocal lessons.
