The Criminal Code of Canada may interpret a supervisor based upon criminal code 217.1.

"217.1 Everyone who undertakes, or has the authority, to direct how another person does work or performs a task is under a legal duty to take reasonable steps to prevent bodily harm to that person, or any other person, arising from that work or task."

Supervisors have many different levels of responsibility. They answer to company management, but they also are responsible for the development and activities of their staff members.

Supervisor also assume the reasonability to keep their workers safe. In addition, they are to ensure that the work their employees are performing will not affect the health and safety of others in the area.
