Experience this for yourself in two of London’s most respected and famous studios, Abbey Road Studios in St John’s Wood and Angel Studios in Islington. Our ‘Song Production Masterclass’ is a 4-day experience that will take you through the entire recording process.
Led by the highly respected engineer and producer Hans-Martin Buff you’ll immerse yourself in each of the stages of recording, mixing (stereo & Dolby Atmos) and mastering in our world-class facilities.
Hans-Martin Buff brings with him a wealth of experience and expertise, much of it gained through his years working for Prince at Paisley Park. You can find out more about Hans-Martin in our recent interview.
He is joined by the accomplished cellist, composer, arranger and conductor Audrey Riley and her orchestra. Together this expert team will record and produce a new piece of music with an up-and-coming artist.
You’ll be introduced to Abbey Road’s priceless microphone collection by the Studios’ in-house expert Lester Smith, learning about the history of the collection and how mics are chosen for different sessions.
Across the four days, you’ll spend time between the two studios. Day one will be spent at Angel Studios in ‘Angel One’, where you’ll observe all the different stages of recording a song, from microphone selection, live room set-up, tracking and recording management.
On day two you’ll move to Abbey Road’s Studio Three, home to iconic recordings by Amy Winehouse, Pink Floyd, Brockhampton and Anderson Paak. You’ll continue recording including string orchestration, monitor mix and mix preparation.
Day 3 will be spent mixing down the track with Hans-Martin in the Studio Three control room and on the final day learn how award-winning Abbey Road Mastering Engineer Oli Morgan puts the final touches to the track, getting it ready for release.
We’ll end the masterclass with a review and reflection on the four days to wrap up the session. You’ll leave with insights and an understanding of behind the scenes at Abbey Road and Angel Studios, which have previously been unseen by the public.
