Course Details

LinguaArte teaches all the fundamental and essential points of the Spanish language using the Creative Approach to Language Teaching. Students will be given creative exercises that help them develop an important skill of using a language: thinking creatively.

Our teaching methodology is based on the newest research in the field of teaching foreign languages. Students will communicate in Spanish at all levels and in various situations throughout the Spanish speaking world.

 

Course Description:

This course is designed for complete beginners who want to study Spanish from the very beginning. It offers a comprehensive grammatical foundation in Spanish; helps develop basic Spanish language skills and build confidence when communicating in Spanish.

The course contains 9 lessons with dialogues, texts, grammatical explanations, and a wide variety of interactive exercises that help the students learn and expand their knowledge.

 

Recommended Level:

  • No previous knowledge required

  • No Spanish placement test required

 

Lessons Content

  • In each lesson the student will be practicing the following skills:

 

Verbal Expression:

  • Students will be practicing reading skills through different cultural and literary readings.

 

Written Expression:

  • Students will practice writing exercises using grammar structures learned in class.

 

Listening Comprehension:

  • Students will be listening to audio and video exercises to practice concepts learned in class.

 

Reading Comprehension:

  • Students will read different cultural and literary readings at their level to practice reading comprehension skills.

 

Vocabulary:

  • Students will expand their vocabulary through contextualized and controlled practice exercises and by participating in open-ended and communicative activities

 

Grammar:

  • Students will practice Spanish grammar with comprehensive explanations aa well as do various exercises to practice the grammatical structures of the lesson.

 

Culture:

  • Students will be introduced to Spanish speaking cultures, including cultural practices, products and perceptions of the region learned in class.

 

Communication:

  • Students will focus on verbal interaction through communicative activities including dialogues, role play, drawing, information gap, stories, and identifying differences.

 

Course Goals

  • Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to do the following:

 

Listening

  • I can understand familiar words and very basic phrases concerning myself, my family and immediate concrete surroundings when people speak slowly and clearly.

 

Reading

  • – I can understand familiar names, words and very simple sentences, for example on notices and posters or in catalogues.

 

Spoken interaction

  • I can interact in a simple way provided the other person is prepared to repeat or rephrase things at a slower rate of speech and help me formulate what I’m trying to say. I can ask and answer simple questions in areas of immediate need or on very familiar topics.

 

Spoken production

  • I can use simple phrases and sentences to describe where I live and people I know.

 

Writing

  • – I can write a short, simple postcard, for example sending holiday greetings. I can fill in forms with personal details, for example entering my name, nationality and address on a hotel registration form.

  • Jose Manuel Martinez Castro was born in Galicia, in the northwest of Spain. He has a passion for languages. He has lived in different countries and met people from every culture. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Translation and Interpretation from the University of Vigo, Spain. He has a Master’s degree in Teaching Foreign Languages from the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia, A Coruña, Spain. In addition to knowing his own language, he is also fluent in French, Portuguese, and English. He has worked as a translator, interpreter, and a Spanish language instructor for 6 years before moving to Atlanta. His career as a Spanish teacher started in 2011 in Corsica, France, where he taught general Spanish and Spanish for Specific purposes courses for the Public French Education System. He has been teaching Spanish and serving as coordinator of language programs for the Latin American Association since 2014. He taught a wide range of Spanish courses, from group and private to career-focused Spanish courses, including Business Spanish and Medical Spanish. More recently he taught a course on Epidemiological concepts in Spanish for the CDC employees. His interests include psychology and sociology. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, traveling, cooking, and visiting museums.
