With 483 million native speakers, Spanish is the second most used language internationally, after English, and is second only to Mandarin in global native speakers. Today native Spanish speakers make up 7.6% of the entire population of the world.

It is an official language in 21 countries: pretty much everywhere from Mexico to Patagonia, except Brazil, one African country (Equatorial Guinea), and it is also spoken in the Philippines.

In total 580 million people speak Spanish worldwide, including 75 million speakers with limited competence and 22 million of learners. More than 50 million people in the USA speak Spanish as a first or second language and it's also quite popular in Spain too. Spanish is studied as a foreign language by 22 million students worldwide and it is highly regarded by employers.

 

Spanish Beginners (Level 1)

This is for you if you have no prior knowledge of Spanish (or so little that you effectively want to start again from scratch). You will learn basic skills to enable you to make yourself understood and to find out information in everyday situations.

 

Spanish Post-beginners (Level 2)

You can already manage in everyday situations using the present tense. You have reached level A1 in the ELP self-assessment grid and/or completed the Beginners (level 1) Course.

 

Spanish Intermediate (Level 3)

You have reached the A2 level in the ELP self-assessment grid (equivalent to a good grade at GSCE) and/or completed the Post-Beginners (level 2) Course.

 

Spanish Upper-intermediate (Level 4)

You have reached the first half of the B1 level in the ELP self-assessment grid (equivalent to an A-Level grade F to C) and/or completed the Intermediate (level 3) course.

 

Spanish Advanced (Level 5)

You have either reached the full B1 level in the ELP self-assessment grid (equivalent to an A-Level grade A or B) and/or completed the Upper-intermediate (level 4) course.

 

Spanish Post-advanced (Level 6)

This course will combine two levels together - Advanced and Post Advanced. You have either reached the full B1 level in the ELP self-assessment grid (equivalent to an A-Level grade A or B) and/or completed the Upper-intermediate (level 4) course.or you at the first half of the B2 level on the ELP self-assessment grid and/or have previously taken an Advanced (level 5) course.

 

Spanish Proficiency (Level 7)

You have reached the full level B2 level on the ELP self-assessment grid.
