Spanish (Level A1 Breakthrough)

The Instituto Cervantes is the institution created by Spain in 1991 to promote, teach Spanish and spread the culture of Spain and the Hispanic-speaking countries. The headquarters of the institution are in Madrid and in Alcalá de Henares (Madrid), city of birth of the writer Miguel de Cervantes.

The Instituto Cervantes is present in five continents with 88 centres, amongst which outstands the Leeds branch which has been running since 1993. Therefore, in 2023 we celebrate our 30th anniversary, collaborating actively in the teaching of Spanish and the spreading of Hispanic culture! There are another two Instituto Cervantes' branches in the UK, in London and Manchester.

Our institution also is in charge of:

• Organising the exams for the DELE, as well as to issue official certificates and diplomas for those who attend our courses.
• Organising courses of Spanish language.
• Training for teachers of Spanish.
• Launching workshops and cultural activities.
• Supporting Hispanists in their activities.
• Promoting cultural activities in collaboration with other organizations.

The work of the Instituto Cervantes is managed by representatives of the Spanish and Hispanic-American academic world, cultural and literary. The Instituto Cervantes in Leeds collaborates with museums, galleries, theatres, publishers and other English, Spanish and Latin-American cultural institutions.
