Students at this level can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type.
Level A1 Beginners
To join Elementary 1 (A1.1) no previous knowledge of Spanish is required. This is a completely beginners course. For Elementary 2 (A1.2) we would strongly advise you to take a level test prior to enrolling if you are not a returning student.

The Instituto Cervantes is the institution created by Spain in 1991 to promote, teach Spanish and spread the culture of Spain and the Hispanic-speaking countries. The headquarters of the institution are in Madrid and in Alcalá de Henares (Madrid), city of birth of the writer Miguel de Cervantes.
The Instituto Cervantes is present in five continents with 88 centres, amongst which outstands the Leeds branch which has been running since 1993.
