This program builds on a strong foundation of commerce courses in marketing, accounting, economics, human resource management and strategy. Graduates of the Sport and Event Management program will develop knowledge in key aspects of sports, such as sponsorship, media, event hosting, stakeholder engagement and organizational leadership.

In-person

  • An in-person Sport and Event Management BComm provides you with opportunities to complete courses that extend beyond the classroom into in-field experience, guest lectures, case competitions and a connection to Lang’s International Institute for Sport Business and Leadership.

Co-op

  • Supplement your in-person learning with co-op.

New Online (BComm)
Coming Fall 2025, pending Senate approval

  • Students enrolled in the Sport and Event Management (fully online) program, cannot take in-person courses.
  • A new fully asynchronous online Sport and Event Management BComm delivers the same great content as the in-person program, preparing you for a career in the sport industry through group projects and case-based learning.

  • Go Beyond the Classroom- Courses in the Sport and Event Management major extend beyond the traditional lecture-based format to include community-based group projects, guest lecturers, in-class simulations and case-based learning to help pair academic expertise and theory with industry experience.
  • Build Your Network- Connect with the Guelph Sports Management Association student group, which hosts an annual job fair where students can network with industry employers, as well as Lang’s International Institute for Sport Business and Leadership advisory board to delve into today’s sport world as it relates to curriculum.
  • Gain Valuable Experience Through Co-op- Our Sport and Event Management co-op provides over 20 months of real-world co-op experience, designed to facilitate the transition of students from academic studies to a professional career improving students’ job search skills, work performance and networking abilities, and boosting resume experience.

Co-op experiences can include:

  • Supporting the hosting of a national championship.
  • Event marketing for professional sports teams.
  • Measuring the economic, environmental and social impact of sports and events.
