Course Details

This course is for those aged 16 and above who are wishing to undertake a career in Sport or Fitness.

The purpose of this qualification is to develop the transferable skills, attributes and behaviours needed for you to progress to further study and ultimately to employment. The qualification is designed to be delivered in an applied way, bringing together appropriate content with practical participation, coaching and teaching skills.

This course will enable you to develop knowledge, understanding and skills relevant to working in the Health and Active Leisure sector as a coach or fitness instructor.

Work placements with local schools, sports providers and gyms will be an essential feature of this programme and it will also be associated with the development of your teaching and coaching skills.

The programme also includes studying Maths and English towards GCSE grade 9-4 (old grading system: A*-C) if you do not already have these grades.

Modules

  • Being Organised: Learners will develop key techniques to help organise their work and priorities and manage their time effectively.

  • Developing a Personal Progression Plan: Learners will develop the skills and behaviours needed to progress to the next stage in their learning, identifying progression opportunities and creating a plan to enable them to get there.

  • Training and Fitness: Learners will develop skills in planning and delivering training sessions to improve fitness.

  • Coaching Skills in Sport: Learners will develop planning and coaching skills in sport by participating in practical activities.

  • How exercise affects the body: Learners will find out how exercise affects the body by carrying out tests and collecting and interpreting results.

Should you not have or not expect to obtain the grades stated above, or not have relevant industry-related experience, the College would still welcome your application for this course as this will enable us to identify whether this course is, in fact, the right course for you or whether another course may be more appropriate.

Equivalent international qualifications would be considered towards general entry criteria.

All course offers will be subject to a satisfactory interview. Completion of additional activities, such as attending Experience Days or gaining a reference, may also be required prior to a place on a course being confirmed.
