At B&FC, this won’t delay your career journey because you’re working towards these subjects at the same time as your chosen subject.

Industry placement, field trips and guest speakers

If you are aged 16-18, you will need to spend at least 52 hours on work placement, when you will develop your skills in a realistic industry setting. You will need to find your own placement but we can support you in this.

We also run exciting trips to places such as Chill Factor, National Citizen Service venues, Low Ropes and Go Ape.

How will I learn?

Our expert tutors understand that everyone learns in different ways so they use a range of teaching methods to enable everyone to achieve their potential.

Whenever possible, tutors use demonstrations to allow you to develop your practical skills to best effect. There is also an emphasis on collaborative working, so you will spend much of your time participating in group work, presentations and practical sessions with your peers.

E-learning is a key element of all our courses and we also use a range of on-line apps to support, enhance and motivate learning. Your tutors will support you with these technologies and also in preparing for examinations.

You will spend 10.5 hours a week in class and you will also need to devote a minimum of 5 hours a week to independent study.

Expert tutors

All staff involved in the delivery of further education courses within the College are approved to teach the subjects and modules they deliver.

The approval process ensures that staff delivering a given programme are appropriately qualified and, where appropriate, possess relevant technical and industrial experience and professional practice.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment for this qualification takes place through practical demonstrations and assignments, which will be set and verified externally, and assessed internally.
