In this 3 hour class, you will learn the concept of linocut, design considerations and carve your design on a rubber block (recommended for beginners) and of course fabric printing techniques.
You will carve a repeatable unit and create seamless prints on ½ yard of handwoven khadi cotton fabric which can be used as a furoshiki to wrap two bottles of wine or a shoe box, or tie it up as a handbag. With simple sewing skills, you can also turn your block printed fabric into a small tote, two pillow cases or simply use it to wrap your freshly baked bread by trimming the edges with a pair of pinking shears.
We will help guide and encourage you to design your own motif! Print seamless patterns or random repeats, pair different colours to create your very own colour scheme – think 2-3 complementary colours that goes together or if you're feeling adventurous go for contrasting schemes and make a statement!
At the end of the class, you'll get to keep your handcarved stamp and any leftover fabric ink for more printing at home. We will share places you can get tools, inks and different media you can print on as well. Carving tools will be provided for use during class.
This workshop recommended for adults only and is not suitable for children below 12 years old as there are sharp tools used. No experience is required.
Our studio workshop class size is kept small and cosy with a maximum of 6 participants per group to ensure each individual gets quality guidance from our instructor.
Please note that workshop slot may be rescheduled should the minimum class size of 3 pax is not met. You will be notified of any changes at least 2 days before the workshop.
