At the end of the course a seafarer should able to follow “Safe Working Practices'',as laid out in the ships operating procedure(SOP)and as per the ISM Checklist and also company specific safety drills should comply with.
Basic Safety training (BST) consists of Four courses namely
1.PSSR,2.PST,3.EFA,4.FPFF.
This course is designed as per STCW requirements and guidelines provided by DG Shipping.
PSSR:
This course is designed to enhance knowledge,understanding and proficiency about ship familiarization,Different types of ships,safe working practices,Interpersonal relationships,Team building,Team working skills and conflict resolution.This course also teaches effective communication skills,environmental protection,and following emergency procedures.
PST:
It deals with types of emergencies,different emergency drills,emergency stations,boat stations.Parts of survival crafts,launching procedures and survival at sea.
EFA:
A candidate should understand basic parts of the body, Human Anatomy and Functions, Positioning of Casualty specially an Unconscious state. Resuscitation Techniques, Bleeding,Management of Shock ,Burns and Scalds, andRescue and Transport of Casualty.
FPFF:
The objective of the course is to understand the theory of fire,fire prevention and protection.Ship construction and arrangements.Operation of Different types of Fire-extinguishing Systems,Fire pumps,cooling systems,Fire Fighting methods and teams that is assigned with various duties during the fire emergency.

If incase the crew has to abandon the vessel we should able to don the life jackets,lower the lifeboats,life drafts and move away form the ships. He/she should be able to use the communication equipments ,Distress signals effectively.
This Course is Mandatory For:
Those who want to sail on board merchant ships,Cruise vessels,oil rigs etc,.and also to apply for the Indian CDC(Continuous Discharge Certificate)which is a mandatory Document required for sailing on board Merchant Ships.
Prerequisites:
Passport, INDoS Certificate,Medical Certificate from DG Approved Doctor
Assessment:
In accordance with DGS Order 11 of 2022, exit examinations are required to be attended in person at the respective Maritime Training Institute (MTI).
