STCW Basic Safety Training

Seascope Maritime Training has been in operation since 2004 in the UK offering a range of STCW Training Courses to the highest maritime standards. Seascope holds accreditation from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, (MCA) under the UK Department of Transport.

The team at Seascope was set up by Alfie Hincks, when he decided to leave his own career at sea and dedicate his life to teaching safety courses to seafarers. Alfie has an amazing passion for teaching and an ability to share his knowledge with students in a fun and friendly manner.

With Alfie at the helm, Seascope quickly gained a solid reputation as a professional and dedicated training provider and his school in Liverpool became one of the most popular in Northern England, providing training over the years to literally thousands and thousands of seafarers from the commercial shipping sector.

Due to the popularity of his teaching methods and the professionalism of his company, Alfie was asked to come and teach students in the yachting industry. He then opened his second training facility in the South of France. 

The charming classroom is located in the centre of the old town of Antibes a captivating town full of history situated on the idyllic Cote d’Azur, a very popular destination for yachts and yacht crew.

At both schools, Alfie heads up a team of highly trained instructors and training coordinators, all of whom are extremely passionate and motivated in their work.

We jumped into the swimming pool in our immersion suits and life-jackets from a 3 metre height, practiced some swimming, turned over the life raft, performed sea anchor operations etc. Very good teaching points made by experienced instructors and also good sense of humour. 

We all had a good laugh and that way you will remember even more.  Another course was running on the other side of the pool that day and their life raft was already inflated so that was easier for them. 

 But for the students of the Seascope the  life-raft operations were explained from the scratch – the point being we saw the life raft being deployed from the canister, and that I have not seen on my initial STCW95 which I have done in 2011.
