The present course fully covers the syllabus as prescribed in IMO model course on Elementary First Aid and meets the IMO STCW2010. All those prospective seafarers and those already seafaring whose business takes them across the seas should possess knowledge of the means available to them to save themselves and assist in saving lives in an emergency.
This handbook in addition to providing a reading material for Elementary First Aid course is also recommended for use on board. It is hoped that knowledge and experience gained on completion of the course will enable a prospective seafarer to respond in an efficient manner to emergency situations and which will contribute towards enhancement of safety of life at sea.
The course will cover the regulation VIII read along' Section A- VI/l-3 of Code A of STCW convention 1978 as amended in 2010.
AIIMT Varanasi
Asha International Institute Of Marine Technology (AIIMT), is functioning under a registered Educational Society Asha Educational Society and established in the Varanasi City. The AIIMT is Approved by theDirectorate General Of Shipping (DGS), Ministry of Shipping, Government of India vide their letter No. 3-TR (87)/2002-GP.
AIIMT has committed to transport young citizens of India to join the Merchant Navy as GP Rating under the guidelines of Directorate General of Shipping. So that the Candidates can join as Rating in any foreign / Indian ships, worldwide.
The yeoman efforts of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), London in achieving the twin objectives of safe ship and clean seas, by the development of various conventions, protocols and guidelines concerning the safety of life at sea, prevention of pollution of sea, sea farers certification and watch keeping, are appreciated by the world.
To day a career in the shipping is very challenging and requires honing of the capability of an individual to a fine art. In order to meet this requirement, The Asha International Institute Of Marine Technology (AIIMT), Varanasi, is being established.
Facilities
The institute is built in 10 acres self-contained campus having facilities for medical, library, swimming pool, banking, ATM, canteen, Xerox and internet facilities. Academic block has 10 spacious classrooms together with Computer lab, workshops (Hotworkshop, seamanship, engine, machine, carpentry, plumbing) and simulators for Steering, Radar, Arpa, Navigation and GMDSS.
The lab and workshops are well-equipped. The campus is situated just beside Varanasi International Airport in the midst of rural tranquility and the residents get benefit of the clean air, open spaces and moderate weather condition.
AIIMT has a policy of sharing resources among its various constituent colleges. Marine college of AIIMT offers unique opportunity to the cadets to have hand on experience in all kind of machineries. So Labs and workshops of AIIMT are also used by our students from time to time.
The programme at AIIMT is carefully designed to take maximum advantages of the facilities and infrastructure available to enhance the learning experience and to build a culture of team work and professionalism.
The curriculum places great emphasis on practical training and ship visit. The curriculum is designed to reinforce the theoretical knowledge with practical skills. Separate hostel facilities are provided for boys. Boys hostel are completely isolated and have all facilities as required by D. G. Shipping.
All cadets are provided with medical care and are subjected to medical examination periodically by institute’s Resident Medical Officer. Resident Medical Officer visit hostels everyday for minor ailments.
However, the cases of illness which cannot be adequately treated in the institute are treated in hospital and in that case cadets are sent to hospital. Charges of hospital, as actual, are recovered from parents/guardians. The institute has tie-up arrangement with Sanmukh Hospital for referral cases. Ambulance facilities are provided on 24 hour basis.
Basic Safety Training (B.S.T.) course is offered by Trident Institute Of Maritime Studies. Accommodation Available (Including complimentary breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner.)

Basic STCW Safety Training is offered by NUSI Maritime Academy. The National Union of Seafarers of India (NUSI) is the leading Seafarers Union in the country.
Security Training (For Seafarers With Designated Security Duties) is offered by United Marine Academy.Training is imparted by qualified and expeirenced faculty members using the latest aids for practical demonstration.
The trainees have to undergo the following STCW (Standard of Training Certification and Watch-keeping) courses during the training period in the academy.
