Effective transport by the ocean is an important mode of transportation, particularly for a country like India with an outlet to the ocean. Indian Merchant Navy comprises Passenger Vessels, Cargo Liners, Tankers, Ore-Carriers and other types of technical vessels. These Vessels are operated by public and private sector shipping companies and are manned by trained Marine Masterminds, Shipmen, and Crew.

Ocean-going trafficker’s vessels are to be manned by competent mariners who need to be specially trained. Colorful International Conventions have espoused judgments to the effect that seafarers manning the trafficker’s vessels must be completely trained for the challenges that this job at ocean requires. To meet this challenge, the SMA(Shivalik Maritime Academy) has been established.

Shivalik Maritime Academy focuses on imparting quality education and training in the field of the merchant navy and promoting the highest standards of technical training in the state. It provides a good learning environment to every seafarer supported by excellent training faculty with proper drills and practical experience of being onboard.

The institute is located in Near Interstate Bus Terminal.  The campus has fully equipped, training areas, where the candidate experiences, the actual situation being onboard through mocks and drills.
