Training Ship Rahaman has its beginnings in the year 1910 when Haji Ismail Yusuf, the proprietor of the Bombay Steam Navigation (BSN) Company decided to establish a Marine School as a charitable institution at Rashid Mansion, Worli Point, then Know as Bombay.
It was a debt of gratitude to the seafaring community who had served loyally on the Company’’s ships.
The purpose was to encourage the orphans and wards of the seafaring community, irrespective of caste, creed or religion, to follow in the footsteps of their forefathers, and at the same time meet the demand of indigenous mercantile marine of the country which was experiencing a shortage of trained deck hands and officers
Security Training (For Seafarers With Designated Security Duties) is offered by United Marine Academy.Training is imparted by qualified and expeirenced faculty members using the latest aids for practical demonstration.
Basic Safety Training (STCW) course is offered by BIMT. The STCW Basic Safety Training course (STCW95 & STCW 2010) and STSTSD is required to be undertaken by all seafarers in accordance with section A-Vl/1 of the STCW Code.
BST (STCW Basic Safety Training) is offered by Sea Scan Maritime Foundation .Sea Scan Maritime Foundation offers a range of courses accredited by the Directorate General of Shipping, Government of India, and is certified under the ISO-9001:2015 Quality Management standard by DNV.
