SA Maritime School was founded in 1986 by Cdr PJK Fitt - a Master Mariner and veteran trainer in the shipping industry. SA Maritime School is the longest operating maritime school in South Africa, with over 30 years of history, with branches in Durban and Cape Town.
STCW Basic Safety Training course is the legal minimum requirement for anyone looking for commercial work aboard vessels, including working on Superyachts and working on Cruise ships.
The STCW Basic Training Course is internationally recognized and meets all international standards prescribed by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).
Before being assigned to any shipboard duties in relation to safety or pollution prevention, seafarers engaged in any capacity on board need basic training in Personal Safety & Social Responsibilities, Personal Survival Techniques, Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting.
