About Us
The Old Craft Store, started by Richard Fleming and Melba Hamrick, has been in downtown Carrollton, TX since 1971. When it first opened, The Old Craft Store offered woodworking, painting, and sewing classes. If they had just added a “twist” they would have been way ahead of their time. Melba eventually purchased the business and turned it into the wonderful quilt store it is today: offering quilting fabric, notions, and classes for every level of quilter. When she decided it was time to retire after 48 years at The Old Craft Store, Melba sold the business to a single mom with a love for quilting.
In February of 2019, Jennifer became the new owner of The Old Craft Store. She has been quilting for about 20 years, with her love and passion for quilting stemming from visits back to her family farm in Illinois. Jennifer's Great Aunt Lily loved to quilt and seeing all the wonderful hand sewn and quilted blankets inspired her to learn how to sew just so she could start quilting. Jennifer fell in love with quilting, as well as the quilt store on the corner of Main and Elm Street in Carrollton. Now, Jennifer gets to surround herself with fabric, fabric, and more fabric. One of Jennifer's main goals as the Manager for The Old Craft Store is to share her love for quilting and bring The Old Craft Store to all of the quilters out there that might not live near Carrollton, TX with the new website.
When she is not managing the store and creating beautiful quilts, Jennifer is hanging out with her 11-year-old daughter, Morgan, and 2 lovable dogs, Winnie and Ellie. She and her daughter enjoy the second most favorite Texas Friday night tradition: going out for Mexican food. Can you guess the first tradition? Hint: Football. Jennifer is a huge Cowboy fan. Well, Oklahoma State Cowboy anyway. Her other guilty pleasure is reading romance novels. Yeah, Kindle Unlimited or she would have to get a library card.
Are you wondering how Jennifer makes all this work as a single mom? Help, lots and lots of help. One of the best things about owning The Old Craft Store is working with the talented staff. They are responsible for creating all the wonderful projects at the store and taking care of our customers. All of the employees at the store truly love our customers and make sure that the customer's happiness is first priority. At The Old Craft Store, quilting is more than just a hobby.
As we like to say at the store, “There is no Place like this Place, anywhere near this Place, so this must be the Place!”
