About RS Grass Roots Education
The Grass Roots team at RS Components are a dedicated team, focused on empowering youth in the engineering and technology space. We support and develop engineering students and young people across the globe, helping them bridge that education and experience gap, between university and the workplace. In short, we help young people get ‘work ready.’
Technical skills and knowledge that engineering students gain at university are invaluable, but equally important are Super Skills. They make you stand out from the crowd and give you confidence in both the interview process and workplace, in terms of understanding what employees are looking for and what behaviours you should express. These skills complement your technical ability to make up a ‘well rounded’ engineer.
What We Do
At Equate Scotland, we make a positive difference for women in science, engineering, technology, and the built environment and actively work to change cultures in organisations and academia.
Established in 2006, Equate Scotland is the national expert in gender equality throughout the STEM sectors. We make a tangible and sustainable change, enabling women studying and working in these key sectors to develop, by supporting their recruitment, retention, and progression.
Our vision is of a progressive STEM labour market where women can contribute equally to advancements in science, engineering, and technology and have fair access to the jobs of the future.
Working with employers
In order to achieve the change we wish to see for all women, we work alongside industry and academia, creating positive changes in employment practices, behaviours and workplace cultures which are evidenced to benefit everyone.
We achieve this by
Delivering expert and bespoke training.
Offering consultancy to support employers in strategy development or simply helping employers understand where to start on pursuing gender equality.
Providing the only UK wide “women into STEM” job advertising platform and inclusive language check service.
Equate Scotland is funded by the Scottish Government to deliver our work without charge to students and women. The Scottish Government also funds our public training events to build gender equality knowledge and capacity in the STEM sectors. Our training, consultancy and recruitment support comes at a cost, however all income generated is invested back into our support for women studying, working in, or returning to STEM and allows us to reach more women across Scotland.
This is a workshop for staff working with school age children. Telling stories, sharing news, relaying events are all essential communication skills that form part of our everyday interactions.
Our MRes will give you a detailed critical understanding of the study of stories, storytelling and narrative in English. You will explore a wide range of approaches to storytelling, learning about topics such as folklore, podcasting and story mapping.
Inspiring stories are powerful tools – they bring people together, communicating complex change and engaging employees. This workshop covers how stories work in an organisational environment and how to make best use of them.
Storytelling techniques such as character and plotting only work when they are situated within a powerful story world.
The focus of these sessions will be to give awareness of Therapeutic life story work as well as general life story work which can help children understand their life story and promote their identity and attachments.
