The Writers’ Guild of Alberta is a provincial arts service organization that represents both professional and emerging writers in Alberta.Sally Njoroge is a Kenyan born artist residing in Calgary who found her voice through spoken word and DJ-ing. She has been influenced by lyrical masters such as E-Sir, Maya Angelou, Lauryn Hill, and many more. She uses poetry as a medium to explore ideas about identity, family, faith, nature, and anything in-between that peaks her interest.
Sally has worked with various grassroots organizations in Calgary, most notably ReFreshed, where she volunteered for 8 years as a spoken word facilitator to empower youth through writing with the hope to spark creative thinking, build confidence through performance, and liberation through storytelling. Sally’s goal in poetry and music is to bring people together to make sense of this crazy beautiful life we are living, and inspire stronger and more positive human connections.
Sally also works for the Trico Changemakers Studio out of Mount Royal University, & she has this to say this about her work there: “I love being in the position to uplift others. I thrive in creating pathways for changemakers to share their work, knowledge, and experiences with communities.I enjoy seeing relationships grow and connections made that lead to new ways of solving problems. In the Studio, you’ll find me working on the Artist as Changemaker Project and the Changemaker Conversations Project.”
