These workshops are designed to provide a fun, hands-on exploration of storytelling. Participants are invited to consider themselves as storytellers, with important stories to share.
How do we tell stories in a good way? How can we be good “story-catchers”? Workshops are tailored to the group and can include activities such as:
Storytelling games (story drawings, memory mapping, practicing appreciative listening, storytelling prompts)
Button-making - can you tell a story in a space the size of a button?
Zines - Introductions to Zines and exercises for participants to make a simple Zine of their own.
These workshops work well for all ages. They are designed to foster a safe and appreciative space to explore simple personal stories, with options to keep one’s story for one’s self or share as desired.
It all started in 1957 with the formation of the Saskatchewan History & Folklore Society (SHFS). The SHFS is a provincial organization that delivers programs and activities to enable, inspire and celebrate the investigation and sharing of historical and folkloric knowledge in Saskatchewan’s diverse communities.
Our unique identity comes from our focus on storytelling and the history and folklore of daily life. We engage with the past through the lens of everyday people's lived experiences. Sharing our diverse history, folklore, and cultural identities invites us to engage with our relationships and responsibilities to past, present, and future generations.
