In this course you learn some basic things you can do to make sure you keep the stress manageable
College studies can be stressful. You will have a lot of demands for your time, and you will need to manage your schedule and responsibilities on your own. On top of that you want to make sure you do the best you can in your courses. It is perfectly normal to feel some stress. What is important is making sure you can manage that stress. There are some basic things you can do to make sure you keep the stress manageable. However, if you are finding it hard, it is important that you seek help. Student Services offers a number of resources to help you, so don’t hesitate to get in touch with them when you need help.
Managing your time and making a schedule can go a long ways towards reducing your stress. You will have a lot of work to do for your courses, and there will be points in the semester where that work might feel overwhelming. It is important to manage your time right from the start of the semester to make sure you don’t get overwhelmed and burnt out.
While your studies are one of your top priorities, they aren’t your only priority. You do need to make time for yourself, to relax and unwind. While you work on your time management and planning a schedule, you should make sure that you plan some time for yourself. Time to do things you enjoy, like spending time with family or friends, or hobbies and past-times. Obviously, you want to make sure you balance that with your school work and other priorities. However, it is important to make sure you devote some time in your semester to doing things that help you unwind and relax.
You should also celebrate your successes. When you finish a particularly hard assignment or an exam, take a moment to appreciate the work you put in and your success. Even if you didn’t do as well as you wanted, you still put in the work and got it done. For longer assignments, give yourself goals along the way and take a moment to feel satisfaction when you get them done. You don’t need a big party, just a few minutes to appreciate your work or a nice break.
Sleep Matters
One of the biggest mistakes that students make is to cut down on their sleep when they are short on time. Your body needs sleep to re-energize and let you focus on your tasks for the day. Losing a bit of sleep for a few nights might not seem like a big deal, but it becomes more of a problem when this turns into the norm. Making sure you get a good night’s sleep can help you focus on your work and help reduce your stress.
