Fit patterns, try a fabric you've never sewn with before, or make some simple design changes to a favorite pattern. Tackle a daunting new project or just have fun sewing in a relaxed environment. The choice is up to you.
You may bring your own sewing machine or arrange with Marla to borrow one. Camp sessions begin each morning at 9AM and finish at 5PM with a one hour lunch break. Dine at one of many favorite local restaurants within walking distance of the hotel.
The classroom is available to you in the evening and will be locked securely overnight.
Marla Kazell has been sewing professionally for 30 years and creates beautiful couture garments in her custom clothing studio in Tigard, Oregon. Her focus is on fit and fine sewing techniques and her garments feature wonderful details.
She has shared her sewing knowledge in articles for Threads and Sew News magazines and teaches sewing classes and hands-on workshops in Portland, Oregon and across the country.
Do you spend a lot of money on alterations hemming jeans and pants? Learn how to save those really cool jean hems with a special technique the dry cleaners don’t know about! You will follow a step-by-step guide to learn the special technique on how to shorten your jeans and keep the original hem.
Learn how to cut and sew an underwire bra in our Bra-making Sewing Intensive. Students in this sewing class learn how to fit bras and how to work with bra fabrics, including lace, while sewing their own underwire bras.
Students master the proper execution of 20 basic, fine dressmaking techniques. Students must bring their personal sewing machines, a binder (to create a sewing notebook), and items from the class supply list at the top of this page.
Learn to adjust patterns to fit. Then learn techniques from the garment industry for perfect cuffs, collars, collar bands and pockets. Women: Choose from one of three styles: #4510-Man’s Classic dress shirt, #4520-Perfect Shirt, #4521-Sophie Shirt (left to right).
Prefer to work alone? Join our experienced teacher who will help you learn your machine features and accessories. Maybe you have a special sewing project that you need help with. Minimum of 2 hours per session
