This course is designed to give participants a comprehensive understanding of the roles and responsibilities of workplace parties under the Occupational Health & Safety Act with a focus on the duties of supervisors, communication, and safe job planning

 

Learning Outcomes

  • By the end of this course participants will be able to:

  • Identify duties and rights of workers under the Occupational Health & Safety Act

  • Identify duties of employers and supervisors under the OHSA

  • Explain Roles of Joint Health & Safety Committees (JHSC)

  • Explain the role of a Worker Health and Safety Representative under OSHA

  • Explain the roles of the Ministry of Labour and Workplace Safety and Insurance Board

  • Describe the roles of other entities under OHSA Section 22.5

  • Recognize, Assess, Control and Evaluate (RACE) workplace hazards

  • Site sources for information on health and safety issues

  • Explain the hazard pathway

  • Explain the hierarchy of controls

  • Explain the key elements of a Job Safety Analysis (JSA)

  • Identify when a written JSA would be appropriate

  • Identify appropriate controls to mitigate or eliminate risk factors
