Description

The Level 2 Award qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools is a 5-unit programme, to give candidates information about the general responsibilities of supporting learning in a school classroom.

This qualification is knowledge-only (one written assignment per unit) and there is no placement requirement. Units include communication and professional conduct; safeguarding; equality, diversity and inclusion; child and young person development 0-19 years; and how schools function as organisations.

The Award offers knowledge of school practice, relevant to children and young people aged 4-19 years, in all types of education provision. On completion candidates may choose to 'top up' to the full level 2 Certificate, with a further 6 units and school placement experience of 30 days (as a volunteer or in a paid role). The online Award from February 2025 will be done as an electronic portfolio, with live online classes every Thursday morning in term time.

Modules may include

Communication and professional conduct: how to build professional relationships with pupils 4-19 years and adults in a school environment Safeguarding: understand the responsibilities of a classroom professional in keeping children 4-19 safe, and how to recognise signs of possible harm Equality, diversity and inclusion: understand the wider context of social, cultural and learning inclusion, and how schools shape pupils' attitudes and views of the world Child and young person development 0-19 years: recognise both 'expected' development and differences across the age range, and the factors that can influence development Schools as organisations: who does what in a school? How are different types of schools run? What is the role of a school in their community?
