The core element of a T Level in education and early years will allow you to develop your knowledge and understanding in a broad range of topics such as child development, safeguarding and special educational needs, as well as learning about the role of families and support agencies.

The core element of a T Level in education and early years will allow you to develop your knowledge and understanding in a broad range of topics such as child development, safeguarding and special educational needs, as well as learning about the role of families and support agencies.
You’ll be able to delve into the specifics of social interaction, how language is acquired and understanding behaviour. You’ll also build your skills in becoming a reflective practitioner with an understanding of the broader context of education.
T Levels provide students with the knowledge and experience needed to progress to employment or higher education. 3 days will be spent in the classroom, developing underpinning knowledge and theory.
You will also attend work placement with a local employer to gain valuable industry work experience and develop skills for 1 or 2 days per week. (Placement hours and age range of children depend on which occupational specialism you choose).
What will I study?
In Year 1, you will study the core components of the education and early year sector, including underpinning concepts, theories, and principles as well as essential core skills.
You will study different units from across the Childcare sector for age ranges 0-19 years including:
Behaviour, child development
Equality and diversity
Parents, families, and carers
Safeguarding, health and well-being
In Year 2, the occupational specialisms provide students with the knowledge and skills required to enter employment or further study in a specific occupational area. Learners can choose either:
