T-Level In Education & Childcare
T-Levels are pioneering new courses which are co-created with leading employers and aim to ensure young people across the country have access to a variety of programmes that successfully develop them into the skilled workforce of the future.
The T-Level in Education & Childcare is being offered at Preston College from September 2022 and will provide you with not only a vocational qualification but invaluable industry experience. T-Levels are developed with employers so you know you are getting the right skills and experience that they need from their workforce.
What Will I Learn?
T-Levels are split into core units and specialist units. T-Level in Education & Childcare core units cover the following areas to develop your knowledge:
early years education and childcare
understanding the education and childcare sector from ages 0 to 19
child development
how to support children and young people’s education
safeguarding, health and safety and wellbeing
understanding and managing behaviour
observing and assessing children and young people
equality and diversity
special educational needs and disability
English as an additional language
working with parents, carers and wider families
working with agencies and services that support children, families and carers
reflective practice and other forms of professional development.
How Will I Be Taught?
80% of your studies will be within the College, this will be either in a classroom where you will build theoretical knowledge, or in one of our specialist work areas where you can develop your practical skills.
20% of the qualification will involve a 45 day (315 hours) industry placement with a local employer. During this time you will gain real work experience within the industry, placing you in a great position to progress into employment.
How Will I Be Assessed?
You will complete formal assessments and examinations.
What Can I Do Next?
Gaining a T-Level can help learners with progression onto higher study, Apprenticeships or into skilled employment.
T-Levels focus on technical skills and are equivalent to three A-Levels and are worth UCAS points. For example, a T-Level at grade Distinction* is worth the same as three A-Levels at A* and will be recognised by universities and other providers, meaning you have the option to continue your studies after college.
This course is suitable for anyone wanting a career in early years education, childcare or assisting teaching. You can progress into roles such as:
Nursery Worker
Teaching Assistant
Learning Mentor
Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant
