Tai Chi is a gentle exercise originating from ancient China. At Suncare, we offer ‘Sun’ style Tai Chi, which is directly aimed at those with arthritis or at higher risk of falls. Tai Chi can assist participants to:
Increase flexibility, muscle strength, balance and aerobic fitness
Improve immunity
Lower cholesterol and blood pressure
Decrease stress and provide a greater sense of relaxation
Our Tai Chi classes take place every Monday at the Suncare Community Centre gym. We offer one hour beginner and intermediate classes, conducted as part of a 10-week program. A pre-screening and GP clearance is required before starting Tai Chi, and all participants must start at beginner level.

This class is suitable for those with some mobility issues, rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, or anyone who would like to go easy with their body. The class involves gentle, relaxed movement in harmony with mindful breathing.
Tai Chi Bang or Wand is a short piece of bamboo used as a weapon or a tool for self massage. Bangs are provided to use during the class, however, you can easily make one from an old broom handle or piece of dowel. To find the correct length, measure from your elbow to the tip of the middle finger...
'Tai Chi for Everyone' is ideal for beginners as an introduction to the benefits of Tai Chi. There are 8 basic movements. It has been structured to enable people of all ages and physical capacities to enjoy Tai Chi.
Joining a beginners course teaches you the foundations of Tai Chi. You learn the correct leg positioning and weight transfer to allow your upper body to relax. Breathing techniques are taught in the classes to help with your movements. This enables the body to relax and you to feel calm.
