The exercises we practise from this system are slow, controlled, relaxed movements. They are all performed in a standing position. Some movements are co-ordinated with the breath to give a calming sense of relaxation. It is a slow-motion dance like routine which we try to master with a sense of humour!
Warning: It is not as easy as it looks but it is fun trying to do it!
College of the Third Age is a voluntary group, with charitable status, run by and for retired and semi-retired people over the age of 50. We run classes, workshops and social activities for this age group at the lowest possible cost.
We are a self-supporting organisation with no financial help from the council or education. The administration and all the running of C3A is done by volunteers, and as we have a sizeable membership.
This is no easy task, and it is thanks to these volunteers that we are able to exist. Many of the classes and leisure activities are also run by volunteers which helps to keep our running costs as low as possible.
Tai Chi is a complete system of movement that uses mind and body together to promote health and wellbeing.
The sequences I teach are yang style, and are short, circular and delicate forms, where the players learn the principles of tai chi: relaxation, breathing and focused intention.
Our personalised instruction makes learning easy and enjoyable. We also provide instructional videos, podcasts and training guides exclusively to our students.
