That was where we got the inspiration for our centre's name - Labyrinth.
Labyrinth derives from the Greek word 'labyrinthos' and refers to a maze-like structure with only a single path connecting the entrance and exit. This differs from a maze wherein there would be multiple intricately linked paths within it.
We took inspiration from the Greek Mythology involving Theseus' transformation from a youth to a king.
Theseus, a Greek hero, saves his people from a creature that feeds on human flesh- the Minotaur, which is contained in a labyrinth. Despite the complexity of the labyrinth, Theseus ventures in to slay the creature and emerges victorious. However, as courageous as Theseus was, he was deeply flawed whereby he betrays close others for success and unwittingly led to the death of his father due to mistakes made. Thereafter, he assumes adult responsibilities and succeeds his father as king.
In the myth, the labyrinth is a symbol of change. Likewise, our centre aims to be a vehicle of change for many who are facing their struggles. As great of a hero that Theseus was, he made mistakes, and had to deal with a dangerous creature in an unfamiliar environment.
Nevertheless, he emerged out of the labyrinth victorious, having defeated the creature, and continued on with his life and new status. For many out there who are facing struggles or feel lost, we hope that our centre can be a place for them to defeat the Minotaur in their lives. Also, to empower them to live on, in peace and happiness, despite all that comes their way after exiting the labyrinth.
