We teach styles from traditional Broadway to street styles. Classes commence with warm ups then progress to different rhythms and steps in the centre including travelling steps, turns, working with syncopation and different accents.
Students will learn about the greats in tap dance and learn about the history of this fabulous form or dance.
Classes are in age/ability groups. Also exam classes in tap may also be taken. We now include the amazing Tapatak Oz Syllabus in classes aswell. We LOVE our tap here at ATJ.
All That Jazz Dance Studio was established in January 1993. They are still located in the same building but now occupy all of level 1. The studio has one of Perth’s finest reputations and is well known for being a quality run dance studio.
Studio owner and Principal Fiona Scott has enjoyed teaching all styles of dance for over 26 years. Fiona started dancing at age 5 where she studied ballet, jazz, theatrical and tapping. She now enjoys passing on her knowledge, experience and the love of dance to students of all ages. Fiona has been actively involved in local Theatre productions as well including performing in and choreographing shows like Chicago, Cats, Cabaret, 42nd Street and Annie.
Fiona is now the new WAAPA Musical Theatre Tap Lecturer and is enjoying teaching Levels 2, 3 and 4 for the Musical Theatre BA course at WAAPA. Exciting news also, Fiona is now a Tapatak Oz Examiner in Australia and hope s to enjoy passing on her knowledge of tap dance in the community. Fiona is also travelling to New York in 2019 to complete the American Tap Dance Teachers Training Course.
The studio originally started with a group of Adults learning to tap dance at the local hall in Wanneroo from 1988 – 1992 (Known as the Wanneroo Tappers). This was so popular that the studio was then opened in 1993 to cater for Children as young as 2yrs through to Adults.
The studio is actively involved in all local dance competitions. The studio provides open classes in all ages and dance styles and teaches the CSTD syllabus for examinations (Commonwealth Society of teachers of Dance). All That Jazz also offers floorshow performances throughout the year and has regular trips to Sydney to learn from Australia’s top Choreographers and teachers.
Classes include rhythm and sound technique as students learn how to create musical sequences with their tap steps.
Street tap in the tradition of hoofing, focusing on dancing from the waist down. A knowledge of basic tap dance is required. Similar to the style danced by Tap Dogs. Wear tap shoes or tap boots and street clothes.
We offer the Pullars Dance Academy Tap syllabus and the students are examined yearly at Newcastle Dance Academy.
Tap steps are taught from a basic level. Concentrating on Co-ordination and rhythm through music and fun.
Tap dance was created from a fusion of European and West African cultures evolving through many eras to the tap that we know today with metal plates screwed to the soles of the shoes to create the iconic “tap” noise.
