Tennis Xpress is a fun, innovative way of teaching tennis to get players started. It has been developed to help adults into the game by removing many of the barriers associated with learning the sport.
The aim is to get you playing the game quickly (within six weeks) by using lower pressure balls, flexible court sizes, simple scoring and simple technical teaching, all which promote a successful learning environment where players gain confidence, skills, and have fun as they serve, rally and score!
This 6 week coaching course will teach you the tactical and technical fundamentals of tennis so that you can confidently play tennis with friends, family, your children, or other people you meet on the course.

Tennis was introduced to New Zealand in the 1870’s, soon after the modern form of the game was invented in England. The first New Zealand Tennis Championships were played at Farndon in Hawkes Bay in 1886. Maori participation in tennis began soon after, with many Maori playing at a high standard by the 1890’s. Sir Maui Pomare, the first Maori who qualified as a doctor, won the USA Inter-Varsity Tennis Championships in 1899 while he was studying there. This began a great legacy of Maori participation in tennis, with many players of high caliber emerging over the years, most recently professional players like Kelly Evernden, Rewa Hudson and Leanne Baker. But perhaps the doyenne of Maori tennis is Ruia Morrison, who played with great honour in international competitions, and at Wimbledon, in the early days of the professional era.
In the early stages, children can learn the fundamentals of the game in our Tennis Hot Shots programme. They can progress through our coaching pathway as their skill level increases. When players are ready
This program is worked in with the existing primary schools around Greendale Tennis Club and a more comprehensive program is run for kids aged 4 - 8 on a Saturday morning. Greendale Tennis Club is a community play centre for Hot Shots.
Tennis Xpress is an adult beginner programme. It’s social, fun, and you learn the basics of the game. It’s a great way to get back into tennis, or a good starting point if you have never played before.
