This is an introductory course suitable for all students wanting to investigate screen printing, stenciling, block printing, free hand machine embroidery and appliqué. No previous experience or ability to draw is required. Places are limited.
It is the intention of this course that by the end of the weekend you will have learnt the basic skills in screen printing, stencilling and block printing with textile ink on to fabric.
I have added to this Free Hand Embroidery and Appliqué to enable you to use your sewing machine as a creative drawing tool.
The first day of this course will consist of a series of demonstrations and time given for you to work in small groups and try out all of these skills.
At the end of the day you will nominate which skills you would like to investigate further so as I can set up a working space for you on Sunday.
I recommend that you do not limit yourself to making a textile that has a function but rather spend the time learning and exploring the techniques demonstrated.
I will provide screens, pre-cut stencils and blocks, fabric scraps and threads. If you can bring your sewing machine and toolbox of feet all the better.
Note:
If you are under 18 and studying full time at college please check with your form tutor that this course fits in ok with your study time and exams.
MADCAT is my personal vision of Fashion. After a lifetime gaining invaluable skills through working in the fashion industry as a designer, pattern cutter and illustrator, and then many years teaching drawing and fashion design, I am now following my dream.
My career began when I graduated as one of the youngest students on the Hons Degree programme at the world-famous St Martin’s School of Art in London, England. This amazing opportunity fuelled my love of fashion design and I embarked on a 40 year career within the Fashion Industry.
This class is for experienced stitches working on their own projects using mainly crewel techniques.

If you know someone who wants to learn how to make quilts then I would appreciate their introduction. I take beginners on a one to one basis and coach them through the process from choosing their project to binding and labelling their quilt.
You will be making lots of different 2 inch and 3 inch blocks. We'll have a kit for you and it will be either a warm palette (red, gold, cream, browns) or a cool palette (greens, blues, creams, mauves etc).
