Objectives Of Traffic Control 3

  • To protect construction workers and the motoring public by regulating traffic flow.

  •  To stop traffic whenever required by the progress of work. Otherwise to keep traffic moving at reduced speeds to avoid tie-ups and delays.

  •  To allow construction to proceed safely and efficiently and To ensure that public traffic has priority over construction equipment.

 

Safety should receive prime consideration in planning for traffic control. The Construction Regulation (O. Reg. 213/91) under the Occupational Health and Safety Act specifies that a worker required to direct traffic “shall be given adequate written and oral instructions, in a language that he or she understands, with respect to directing vehicle traffic, and those instructions shall include a description of the signals that are to be used” (Section 69 (4) (d)).

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to demonstrate knowledge of vehicle traffic hazards, establish effective procedures, and identify control options.
