Transport Managers CPC

  • This qualification is designed for individuals who want to become Transport Managers, or demonstrate their professional competence to meet the requirements when applying for their ‘O’ (Operators) Licence.
  • CRH aims to provide maximum support to all our candidates. We have prepared a training program aimed at delivering all the required knowledge in a timely manner whilst ensuring quality and standards are maintained.
  • The program consists of two weeks classroom based training (Monday to Friday week one and Monday to Thursday week two with the examinations on Friday) at our head office facility.
  • CRH also offer a home study pack that will support the candidate in their self-studying. An optional one or two revision days are also available to all home study candidates.

The type of Transport Manager Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) exam you need to take depends on whether you want to work in either:

  • Road haulage - for goods vehicle operators, such as HGV or van companies.
  • Road passenger transport - for PSV operators, such as bus or coach companies.

If you want to manage both road haulage and road passenger transport vehicles, then you need to pass both types of CPC exam.

You don't need a driving licence to qualify and you can take the exam at any age.

All candidates are required to pass two exams in order to gain their Transport Managers CPC as detailed below:

Multiple Choice Exams

  • Both National and International Knowledge will be tested. All areas of the syllabus will be tested with a minimum of 2 questions per area and a maximum of 15.
  • 70%+, 42 out of 60 questions to pass the Multiple Choice
  • 2 hour time limit

What Do You Need To Know To Pass The Transport Managers Exam?
To pass the Transport Manager CPC exam, you need to know about:

  • Civil, commercial, social and fiscal laws on road haulage or passenger transport
  • Business and money management
  • Paperwork needed to take goods or passengers out of the UK
  • Road haulage or passenger vehicle standards
  • Road safety

Taking The Transport Managers CPC Exam
You must take an exam that’s approved by one of the following organisations:

  • Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT)
  • City & Guilds
  • Innovate Awarding
  • NOCN Group
  • Skills and Education Group (SEG) Awards

What Does A Transport Manager Do?
As a transport manager, you need to make sure that:

  • Drivers have a valid licence
  • Vehicles are taxed and insured
  • Vehicles have a valid MOT and are properly maintained
  • Vehicles are loaded safely and not overloaded
  • Drivers do not speed or break the drivers’ hours rules
  • Vehicle operator does not break safety rules
