The Level 2 Extended Certificate also provides an overview of the different career areas available, including travel agencies, holiday parks, aviation, tourist attractions and tourist information offices. This qualification also allows learners to gain transferable skills that can be applied to the workplace or further study.

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs at grade 3 or above including English or Maths, along with the following:

  • A successful interview with a tutor

  • The ability to study independently

  • A genuine interest in the subject

  • Good communication skills

  • Hardworking approach towards the industry

All 16-18 year old applicants will be invited to attend an interview to meet a tutor and ask any questions they may have about the course.

Essential skills: English and Maths

If you achieve a grade 3 in GCSE Maths or English you will have to work towards re-sitting these subjects as part of your main study programme.

At B&FC, this won’t delay your career journey because you’re working towards these subjects at the same time as your chosen subject.

Industry placement, field trips and guest speakers

This course features a mandatory work placement, which allows you to spend at least 52 hours developing skills and knowledge relevant to your qualification and gaining valuable insight into the expectations of future potential employers. Each student is expected to find their own placement however we can support you in this.

As part of the course, we also offer a range of trips and residentials to destinations such as tourist information services, visitor attractions and places of interest. These visits also form part of your assessment.

How will I learn?

You will spend approximately 12 hours a week in class studying on the main programme whilst also developing your maths and English skills to the desired level required by the industry.

This programme incorporates periods of self-study, this means you will be expected to devote additional time outside of the timetabled hours to your studies.

Digital skills and e-learning are key elements of all our courses. We will use a range of online apps to support and enhance your learning. Don’t worry, your tutors will guide you through these technologies and you will be introduced to them in the first couple of sessions.

Expert tutors

All staff involved in the delivery of further education courses within the College are approved to teach the subjects and modules they deliver.

The approval process ensures that staff delivering a given programme are appropriately qualified and, where appropriate, possess relevant technical and industrial experience and professional practice.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment methods will be varied but could include, written reports, presentations, practical sessions and group projects.
