Travel & Tourism

Travel & Tourism will suit students who are interested in the dynamic world of Tourism. The course investigates the travel industry in general terms and gives a flavour of what jobs in this area might involve. Students will be encouraged to use their initiative in order to research areas and develop relevant skills.
If you choose this course you would benefit from:

  • Trips to put tourism into practice; in the past students have visited Berlin and Prague, and it is hoped that further foreign trips will take place.

What will I learn?

In the first year you will study:

The World of Travel & Tourism (examined) including:

  • Accommodation

  • Transport provision

  • Attractions

  • Tour operations

  • Travel agents

  • Tourism development and promotion

  • Trade associations and regulatory bodies

Marketing (Assignment based) including:

  • Trends and factors that are currently affecting the travel and tourism sector

  • Customer Service and the importance of doing it well

In the second year you will study:

Global Travel Destinations (examined) including:

  • Geographical awareness

  • Tourist facilities and amenities

  • Travel planning, itineraries, costs and suitability matched to customer needs

  • Consumer trends, motivating and enabling factors and their potential effect on the popularity and appeal of global destinations

Visitor Attractions (assignment) including:

  • The nature, role and appeal of visitor attractions

  • How visitor attractions meet the diverse expectations of visitors

  • How visitor attractions respond to competition

What will I be taught?

Each Unit is introduced and then students make use of materials in Course books on Teams site and the internet to research topics. Research skills are developed and students are encouraged to present work and have it evaluated. In addition, your teacher and personal tutor will review and discuss your progress with you and will be available for advice to support your learning.

Classroom activities will include:

  • Essay based assessments

  • Student led sessions

  • Presentations
