The purpose of the Travel & Tourism Level 1 qualification is to provide learners with an understanding of the basic principles of the Travel & Tourism Industry, allowing them to explore the various avenues of work within this industry.
This course is made up of two qualifications:
NCFE Level 1 Certificate in Travel & Tourism
The purpose of the Travel & Tourism Level 1 qualification is to provide learners with an understanding of the basic principles of the Travel & Tourism Industry, allowing them to explore the various avenues of work within this industry.
It allows learners to gain transferrable skills that can be applied to the workplace or further study.
Waltham Forest College is putting sustainability at the heart of everything that we do, and in this course, you will learn more about sustainable tourism and how the industry works to be eco-friendly, for example, through responsible travel, ecotourism and looking to reduce the carbon footprint.
The course is scheduled for 3-4 days per week.
The college has strong links with hotels and airlines to provide learners with the required skills and knowledge.
NCFE Level 1 Certificate in Exploring the Aviation Industry
Exploring the Aviation industry is designed to develop knowledge and understanding of airline operations and aviation operations on the ground.
Learners will understand the importance of health, safety and security procedures in the Aviation Industry and be introduced to the different terminology used.
The qualification focuses on the development of skills and knowledge to support working in the Aviation Industry.
This qualification provides the knowledge and understanding to support progression to the next level of vocational learning.
Sector Overview
Tourism in the UK is a vital source of economic activity, contributing to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and supporting jobs across the UK through a mix of inbound, outbound and domestic tourism.
The sector is made up of other sub-sectors including, airlines, airports, hotels, tour operators, travel agency, visitor attractions and ancillary services. It is expected that the Travel & Tourism Industry will add 126 million new job opportunities between 2022 and 2032.

If required, you will study GCSE or Functional Skills maths and/or English alongside your course so you can progress onto the next level.
4 GCSEs at Grade 1 (E) or above including maths and English

To further enhance your progression, you will actively participate in enrichment activities provided as part of the course.
You will take part in trips and visits such as theme parks, museums and other visitor attractions both locally and internationally. You will also be attending taster days with our work experience employers.
Alongside this, you will also have access to key employers that will deliver guest lectures to build your industry knowledge and contacts.
Work Experience
You must complete 36-hours (1 week) of external work placement which is an
essential part of the programme. Some of the opportunities will include
placements such employers such as Premier Inn, The London Edition and The
Stratford Hotel.
