You’ll soon learn it’s more than just a blog post about where you went and what you did. It’s about how carefully your traveller’s eye has been honed: do you see the irony, the human interest, the poignancy and the humour in what you encounter?
Do you have the research skills to substantiate your narrative? Can you add images to your words? Can you market yourself to an overworked editor?
Your tutors are always willing to share their knowledge with you, welcoming discussions on the subject of travel journalism and answering any queries you might have.
Our journey started all the way over in South Africa. In the beginning, we were a duo – Nichola Meyer and Lisa Lazarus – launching a single course in freelance journalism to a modest group of students.
Fast forward to today, and we’ve grown our humble venture into a truly global institution, boasting a presence in the UK, South Africa, and Aotearoa New Zealand.
Our offerings have blossomed, too. We now provide 35 unique writing courses, guided by a passionate team of 27 international tutors, and have celebrated the achievements of thousands of successful graduates.
Our foundation workshop is a transformative experience for anyone who writes at work. In 1 day, you’ll learn a set of practical, plain-language techniques to craft compelling, reader-friendly, and persuasive documents — from short emails to strategic reports, and everything in between.
Two groups of ten students form close supportive units, each working with a tutor. Writers work with prose and poetry. They critique each other’s work. They are exposed to other writers and the writing world, listen to guest speakers and are introduced to a range of good writing by their tutor.
This stimulating course will develop your ability to write a good story and to think more critically about your writing.
Improve your reading, writing and spelling for employment or further study with this free daytime or evening course. Please note that you must be a fluent speaker of English to attend this course. Enrolments may be accepted after the start date, if places are still available.
