This course is designed for personnel who are exposed to trenching and excavations where shoring, shielding, sloping or benching is required to prevent cave-ins and other hazards which may be present in the trench or excavation.
The attendee to the class will become familiar with OSHA requirements for working in trenches and excavations including general hazards of trenches and excavations, working around underground utilities, dangers with water accumulation, access and egress from trenches and excavations, vehicle and pedestrian exposure to trenches and excavations, soil testing, protective systems and rescue planning.
The attendee will be required to successfully complete a written evaluation of the information presented during this training session as recommended by OSHA Regulations 29CFR1926.651.

This class serves as an overview of trenches and excavation safety. Participants will look over 29 CFR part 1926 subpart P and be able to learn the different protective systems used to protect construction workers from cave-ins.
The Trench Safety Competent Person program trains employees on the OSHA Excavations Standard, Subpart P CFR 1910.
Master practicing excavation and trenching the safe way with this course that focuses on adhering to OSHA standards. On a hands-on field trip, you’ll learn how to use instruments like penetrometers and torvane shears and conduct a soil sedimentation test.
