The trombone is another versatile instrument which is useful in orchestra, band, jazz and rock music. Its form has remained the same for hundreds of years; it is elegant and unique in its construction, having a long sliding section used to change note pitch.
It is larger than the trumpet, but with the new lightweight, plastic Pbones children can start learning from around 10-11 years of age. The trombone’s versatility makes it a fun instrument, and there is a wide range of opportunities for trombonists in all the groups as trombonists are often in short supply.
Welcome to the Christchurch School of Music! The CSM is one of New Zealand’s greatest musical treasures, where tens of thousands of Christchurch children and adults have learned to love and appreciate music. CSM is a place where the whole family can learn music in the same place at the same time!
We also offer a wide range of orchestras, ensembles and performing groups for all ages and abilities.
Even front teeth formation is desirable when playing the trumpet. To play the trombone, students will need to be physically capable of reaching all the slide positions with the arm.
The school provides Ministry of Education subsidised group music lessons for primary and intermediate age school students
We provide group lessons to children 5-12 years of age and private tuition for the advancing student 13 years and older.
Brass instrument classes are offered by Whangarei Youth Music. Good communication and input from the student is important to an enjoyable experience.Â
Students must have completed 2 years of the basic instrument or 10yrs old before enrolling in trombone lessons.
