In this workshop, we'll discuss basic mending techniques and materials. We'll look at lots of examples and help you come up with a plan for your own visible mend. Please bring with you a piece of clothing or textile that needs to be mended so you can get started with us!
Visible mending is a technique used to repair a textile and add a funky, new design element rather than trying to hide the repair or make it invisible.
Whether you want to keep wearing that favorite pair of jeans where the knee hole got too big to be cute or you want to patch up the elbows on your favorite jacket, visible mending is a great option!
Not only does it extend the life of your favorite clothing items, but it keeps them out of the landfill and encourages us to consume fewer textiles.
In this workshop, we'll discuss basic mending techniques and materials. We'll look at lots of examples and help you come up with a plan for your own visible mend. Please bring with you a piece of clothing or textile that needs to be mended so you can get started with us!
We'll provide you with your very own complete kit that you can take with you to mend more at home or on the go! (Please note: the book is *not* included in your take home kit). You'll have access to our scrap fabric collection but feel free to bring in fabric from home that you'd like to use in your mend. Depending on the intricacy of your mend, you may not finish within the timeframe of the workshop but you'll have a good start, all the necessary tools, and a plan in place to finish on your own time!
This workshop requires at least 2 students to run. In the event of low enrollment, your registration fee may be applied to a future workshop or it may be refunded minus a small transaction fee.

This introduction to the sewing machine is a “crash course” on determining if your child feels comfortable with the idea of sewing. Before you (the Parent) invest in sewing classes, let your child “practice” on cutting and sewing a simple project. We go over basic sewing “safety rules”.
