City Dance was founded in 2003. We shifted to online only classes during the Covid lockdowns but opened up for in person instruction on Fridays and Sundays only this past June. We will host all of our classes again starting in September at a brand new facility that we will share again with City Ballet School.
Whacking/Waacking incorporates arm movements, characterization, posing, and acting. This dance originated in the gay club scene of Los Angeles in the 1970s disco era. The origins come from the dance form of Punking which was done by gay kids who turned their oppression into expression.
Waacking is one of the fundamental styles of Hip-Hop. The style began in LA gay clubs in the 70's where Black, Latinx, and Asian gay men were able to fully express themselves in a time when they had to hide their gay identities.
Waacking, a powerful dance style that originated in the gay clubs of LA in the disco era, is most often recognized for its fast arm movements and feminine flare.
